The Supertuft Orthocoil Mattress is the firm, heavy-duty option in the Ox Beds range, specified where beds are slept in every night by people of varying weights and need to hold their shape for years rather than seasons.

It is built on a 12.5 gauge spring unit. Gauge measures spring wire thickness and a lower number means thicker wire, so this unit gives a notably firmer and more durable surface than a lighter one. Above it sit multi-density spring insulator pads, which prevent the springs being felt through the fillings and distribute weight more evenly across the mattress.

The mattress is deeply hand tufted. Tufting draws the layers together and holds them in place, so the fillings do not migrate and the surface stays even instead of dipping where the mattress is used most. It is a traditional technique and it is the main reason well-built firm mattresses stay usable long after cheaper alternatives have gone soft in the middle.

Around the edge is a micro-quilted border fitted with handles. That is a practical detail rather than a decorative one: a firm mattress is heavy, and handles are what make regular flipping and rotating realistic for housekeeping or for a customer at home.

The cover is a damask ortho stripe, a durable traditional ticking, and the mattress is made with hypoallergenic materials.
