The Classic Contract Mattress is the workhorse of the Ox Beds range: a firm, traditionally built mattress specified for student accommodation, hostels, guest houses and other properties where beds are used constantly and replaced on a schedule.

Support comes from a 12.5 gauge spring unit. Lower gauge means thicker spring wire, so this construction gives a firmer, more durable surface than a lighter unit and is far less likely to sag in the middle after a heavy year. Above it sit two 800g natural polyester pads, which give the mattress its comfort layer without introducing materials that break down quickly.

The mattress is made using Crib 5 natural cotton material, the fire retardant specification expected in UK contract and student accommodation. It also includes a wool safe barrier and is deep hand tufted, a traditional technique that holds the layers in place so the surface stays even rather than developing hollows where the mattress is used most.

Practical details matter in a building full of beds. Handles are fitted on both sides with nickel chrome plated vents, so housekeeping can turn and rotate the mattress without a struggle, and air can move through the fillings.
